Read Their Love Story!

The Story of Kelly & Rose

Our story is not one of grandiosity, romance, or warm fuzzies. It is one of perseverance, triumph, chaos, and humor. Meeting one another in our late 30’s has definitely been a benefit for both of us. We already went through the “do’s and don’ts” of relationships. We already knew what we were looking for in a “better” half, as we like to put it. And we both know the pain of loving a child as our own only to lose them because the relationship did not work out.

So, our first conversation started on a warm summer evening that went on til 6am the next day. We’ve talked every day since and that was almost 3 years ago. The start of our loving chaos. We moved in together on a Monday in December and eleven days later Rose’s mom moved in. She was staying with us while Rose’s father was hospitalized for the first time during our relationship. We had one cat, 6 dogs, and a 55 gallon fish tank living under our roof. This was the first test in our relationship. We learned patience, support, and the importance of humor during this time.

I proposed to Rose on August 25th, 2013 after a beautiful day on the St. Lawrence River. We were fishing on a dock, Rose’s favorite thing to do. She is not your typical diamond and pearl woman, so a black diamond ring she received. Much to my delight, she said yes! The planning began and the excitement grew. Due to taking care of elderly parents and their extensive illnesses our plans began to take a back seat. Our love and concern for our parents began to take over.

We then decided that our desire to have a family meant more than a wedding ceremony. The biological clock was ticking. The child rearing process began. I found out that my fallopian tubes were completely blocked due to a large fibroid sitting on top of my uterus. It needed to be removed for health reasons. While undergoing surgery a small tumor was found on one of my ovaries and was benign. Months passed, my body healed, hormones were bought, and the search for sperm began. Excitement was building yet again in our household. We were assigned a new doctor, another test was done, only to find out another surgery was needed if we wanted to have a child this way. Time passed, wedding plans dwindled along with our plans for children.

We got busy, so to speak. Our careers, parents, paying bills…etc… This past December, January, and thus far February have proven to be the most stressful of our journey together. We have lost an uncle to cancer, had 3 of our parents in the hospital, one still remains in critical condition. We travel to Syracuse frequently and try to prepare for what may come. Bottom line is, all of these stressful events in our life and the unconditional love we have for our families have brought us closer together. We love, support, laugh, cry, and persevere together. All of which are the makings of a successful marriage.
