In the heart of historic Old Town Alexandria is The Athenaeum.
This beautiful Greek Revival building was constructed in 1851-52 and is on both the Virginia Trust and National Register of Historic Places. Aptly named after Athena, the Greek goddess of wisdom, The Athenaeum continues to serve its purpose of enriching the cultural life of Northern Virginia. Today it houses the gallery of the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association and also features contemporary art exhibitions. The Athenaeum also serves as a center for dance performances.

The Athenaeum is a dramatic and memorable site for wedding ceremonies, receptions, parties and seminars. The upstairs galleries hold up to 100 people for a standing reception or 60 seated at tables. The charming courtyard provides a beautiful outdoor space for up to 50 people standing or 50 seated for a ceremony.
The Athenaeum galleries and charming rear courtyard are an ideal location for weddings and receptions.
The elegant rooms have 24-foot high coved ceilings, enormous windows and beautiful woodwork. There are two galleries on the main floor. Located on the lower level, with original exposed granite walls, is a large room that your caterer may use as a food preparation area, plus two restrooms. Please note wheelchair access is available only on the main floor.

The Athenaeum is home to the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association (NVFAA), a membership organization dedicated to the maintenance and preservation of the building and the celebration of regional arts.
